The 5:1 mismatch is not at all seen by the
finals of the amplifier- that's what the PI
Network is for. When that reflected power 
comes back down the feedline, it sees the
PI Network as a brick wall, and gets re-reflected
right back to the antenna. Read Maxwell's books
for an in-depth explanation of this. Same thing 
happens when you have a tuner in the line. 
Of course, one needs to be mindful of the line
losses due to high swr, which are significant at
the higher frequencies.
