You must be looking at the cheap models.

Both yaesu and Icom have 100 watt models that run close to $13,000USD
You'll know if I ever won the lottery as I'd get two of the big Icoms 
(one for the Den and one for the shop)
along with an Alpha to go with each.  I might even get the antennas 
fixed so I could use them.<:-))
