[Amps] Source wanted for HV switch-mode power supply

Hi Mike,

Yes, Tim Hulick, W9QQ went SK in late 2007, he was the owner of wattsunlimited.

Over the past few months, I have been building a HV switch mode power supply based on his February 1991 QEX article.   I haven't quite gotten to the stage of actually powering it up with full voltage yet, but I am close (this weekend looks good!).   A ll the components are wired up in their respective modules.   If you do a search, you can probably dig up the article.   If not, let me know.

Not to talk you out of it, but to be honest, for me, if I were to do it again, which I hope I will, I would go for a linear power supply unless there is a dire need for weight control.   The switcher I am implementing is very simple, but still far more complicated to build than the traditional power supplies.

Regards,

Paul, kg7hf

(maiden post here)

I've just got a Burle 8791, socket, chimney, and whatnot, and am looking
hard at building an amp. Does anyone know a good source for a suitable
switch-mode power supply -- 2500 V DC at about 750 mA?

I've talked with Ralph W5JGV, but he's going to be taking care of a
medical disaster for some time and not able to do custom construction.
I really want to avoid big iron if possible, to keep cost and weight
down. If at all possible, I'd like one that can be turned on when I hit
the mike switch or key the first DIT or DAH, rather than one that takes
a few seconds to soft start. Watts Unlimited had precisely what I want,
but the proprietor appears to have gone SK.

I'll also be looking at 2 KV supplies at .5 and at .25 A for a VHF amp
(2 x 4CX250B) and a UHF amp (single 4CX250K) later on.
