You made my point. Arcs come in all sizes and one just big enough to
destroy a 10 watt zener would leave a 50 watt unharmed. 

In your original post you said "A tube arc will take out a 
50W zener as fast as a 10W version.", implying that any tube arc  will
destroy a zener of either size. 

Your statement was too broad. If you want to put in there "some" or
"many" or "most" then I would not argue.
