Of course I was being facetious with all of the people that would be sued. But, again, I wouldn't put it past someone attempting to sue that far down the "food chain"!

A good friend of mine is listed on a patent on a device that he invented well over 20 years ago as an employee at a major company. The company had full ownership of the patent from the "get go". However, he, along with the company and others, is being sued because one of the products that incorporated this invention is now "wearing out" after several decades! The product worked fine, but it is now getting way beyond the date at which it really needs to be replaced. But, the customer thinks that the device should work longer! Thus, the lawsuit.

As an attorney, I could not have said it better than Glen did (save the mine, wire & power-company thing- thr latter are "usually" immune). Money-hungry, greedy, J.D. BSTRDs are at the root of the problem.  Short of major tort-reform or my peers suddenly finding conscience trumping greed (not a chance in h#ll), forget the kits.  Read ALL a brand new household vacuum's warnings (and try not to LYAO) if you disagree.  I won't get into the legalisms- just understand this isn't the America you (or I for that matter) were born into, and suck it up, as it won't change in my lifetime for sure.
