The safest way to get a nest down is, wait until well after dark on a 
hopefully cool evening.  Set the big 1KW shop lights up close to and 
pointed at the nest.  Turn on the lights, THEN hose down the nest with 
wasp and hornet killer.  Make sure the lights are large enough to 
accommodate all the wasps that you don't get on the first pass. As long 
as they see the bright light they'll go after it instead of you...as 
long as you don't step into the light. <:-))
