Joe, the points you make are valid .... but it's a clear statement of fact that sending money to someone for whom you only have an email address constitutes a greater risk just as use of Western Union constitutes a greater risk than use of Paypal.  There are fewer channels for redress if something goes wrong.  

I'm sure it's a simple mistake by W4RT.  He may be ill, he may have family issues, who knows?  Hence my suggestion that Roger lets us know when (hopefully) the matter is resolved.

That's a terrible statement.  There are a large number of sellers who
operate e-mail based businesses out of their home as a "second job".
In general they do not want "customers" showing up on their doorstep
at all hours/weekends/holidays and have restrictions on the user of the
telephone for "outside activities" during extended business hours from
their primary employer.

Particularly in hobby type activities like amateur radio, it is not
practical for many sellers to maintain a brick and mortar storefront
and pay someone to set around waiting on telephone calls.

This is no defence of W4RT but be careful about the "broad brush."
