For the average ham, there are only two considerations when it comes to 
N or DIN. Price and whether they are on the rig. Many VHF and UHF rigs 
have an N type chassis connector and the male N connectors cost only a 
bit more than UHF connectors.

When hams grouse over the reusability of the PL250 then they are highly 
unlikely to spend the money for DIN but they are also unlikely to have 
much need for said DIN connectors unless they are playing around with 
UHF and SHF.
