[Amps] al-811 wont transmit

I have had 2 customers this week that asked that same question. They had no idea there was a key line that needed to be connected. Both were first time amplifier owners and they thought an amp keyed on it's own after RF was applied. Anytime this happens I try to remember back to my first experience with Ham radio and how stupid I was made to feel because I didn't magically know everything. Sometimes you just have to be patient and understanding, bless their hearts.

  Did you forget to hook up the key line between the 
  amp and radio? The amp won't key without one.

  I just picked up a used 811.  I was told it was tested

  it up with no problems.  After a 150 mile car ride the

  transmit.  I have 1700 volts on the plate and when I 
  key up the rig I get

  meters on the amp.  The rig
  is good and putting out as it should.

  I only have the coax going from the rig to the amp 
  and the coax going out to
  the antenna.

  Any help would be really appreciated!
