That is a common misconception. For the purpose of harmonizing the markets
in domestic appliances all countries in the Eu were required to move to a
domestic power supply of 230V +- 6% @ 50Hz by 2008. Because the UK
domestic supply of 240V already fell within the required range no change
was either required or is planned.

My home has some applications for motors to drive water and hydraulic
fluid pumps that are more economical with 3-phase power.
