Are they more reliable now I hope?

If there is room in the BC transmitter a couple of electrolytics should be 
fine for the 1500V one. That other one sounds like that TX runs a bit more 
power than your average college station and Fleabay may be a good source for 
a quality NOS or low hour used one.
