Which he was given after he paid the money that was owed.

So in the end he came out ahead with a new tube and the original used one is 
on fleabay.

Pricewise its still a good deal as long as it doesnt exceed core value even 
if its a dud.

I assume that  a station worth a lot more than a tube.
If the new owner wanted to use the station all he needed was a new tube.
