I agree.

For small projects I've been printing full color with a black background on regular paper with a really good laser printer I have access to.  Laminate the paper, trim and glue it to the panel.  It really looks professional for something that costs me next to nothing.

You could get started with silk screening for $100-$200.  That's probably too much for a single project, but if you plan to do a lot of PC boards (or T shirts) you could get a lot of use out of a modest setup.
