No, at least not if you want any kind of accuracy. Germanium diodes have a nominal forward biased voltage drop of about 0.3 volts - silicon is 0.7.

If it turns out to be a bad diode, and I cant gind a germanium, can I use a regular power supply type diode to replace it? Date: Fri, 4 May 2012 07:55:45 -0700

Check the germanium diode that provides the voltage for the "forward" or, in this case, the power output, indication. There are 2-diodes, 1 for forward and 1 for reverse (SWR position). It sounds like the forward diode is bad. Very common!
Also, clean the meter switch. Glen, K9STH

I have a Heath SB 200 amp that is working fine with one exception. The meter is not functioning in the power out position. It reads fine for high voltage, grid, and SWR functions, just not for power output. I have to use an external wattmeter to tuneupand check power output. I thought it might be just my amp until the other day when I was at a ham friends of mine, and he told me he had the same problemwith his SB 200. Anyone else had this problem and know what to do to fix it?
