[Amps] Dentron 160-10L 10 meter issue

Glad you clarified that.

Ive seen late 160-10L's with the Clip L transformer (without the filament CT) and Ive seen late Clip L's with the Clip QRO transformer with the CT and SS zener control as well as the PC board that the tube sockets and input network were on.

With Dentron anything was possible and often done.

Carl

According the the Peter Dahl replacement transformer guide, not exact same but same voltage and same amperage

I thought you said yours had the same transformer?

Well, the 160-10L doesnt have a high/low voltage position...has SSB/CW which only changes the speed of the fan...voltage remains the same..thats the design..in the Clipperton L - newer redesign of this amp, it has a hi-lo voltage switching in different taps on the primary I think. That switch was bad so I replaced it with a on-off HD toggle, rather than the cheap-o 3 position switch..so fan in high speed mode 100% of the time..but I changed that too with a 6 inch fan and put a resistor on it to slow it down a little as it was too damn loud.. hi hi So far it hardly shows color..so hoping the tubes last forever.

2100 is about right in standby on CW while 2600-2700 is fine on SSB.

I hope its just out of tolerance metering resistors and not the filter caps loading it down with high leakage.

Thanks Carl, well, only driving it with about 75 watts, wont go over that with my 746PRO to keep it happy...and not trying to sqeeze every last watt out either, like some folks.. ;) When I rebuilt the power supply, could have redone that voltage doubler circuit, since it uses the same transformer at the Clipperton L, but didnt want to push the 572B's either, 2100 volts at idle now. So will just be careful and tune very slowly on the Tune knob, hate to write in tune positions but maybe stick some colorful tape on the exact loading spots..hi hi ...geez..its a junk style amplifier anyway and I've already cut up and modified it so much..don't think I can hurt the value of this amp any more..hi hi

"Id start there and in the CW position and tune for maximum smoke."

Careful, Carl, there are a lot of hams out there who take every word as gospel and will try to do that.
