[Amps] load testing HV Power supplies

To test, say, a 4000V@ 1Amp HV power supply requires a 4000 ohm/4000W
resistor, which you're unlikely to find in your junk box! As a practical
matter, the only way to test such a power supply is with an active load.
Basically, one takes one or more triodes having the necessary plate
dissipation, mounts them in a chassis with a blower, filament transformer,
and meters, and then applies DC voltage to the control grid to obtain the
desired current drain from the power supply. I don't know of any other
method, but maybe some of the other guys will have better ideas.
