[Amps] Modifying Acom 1000 for a different tube / not necessary

Bill, I agree with your sentiments below...these fine GU74B tubes remain
plentiful and amplifier owners don't need to panic yet; though prudence
would dictate holding a few spares whilst they remain so cheap and abundant.

The once vast supply of the NOS variety won't last forever; and the newly
minted ones are pricey.

Krishna,

I don't believe you can compare the availability of GU-74B's to
3CX800's.

GU-74B's have been $150-175ea for five or more years. Look at e-Bay
- the Russians are selling all you want to buy for that price. And,
how many GU-74B's have you killed in normal (1,500W/pr CW/SSB)
usage in the last five years? They are about as rugged as it gets.

I am sitting on four spares because someone once told me how rare
and hard to find they were (no, they are not for sale). Doesn't
look like demand or prices are rising at all. Supply seems to be
meeting demand, based on the flat prices. I'm glad I didn't invest
my retirement funds in them, hi!
