Semantics. 

In the aviation electronics business "ground loop" is a common, well
accepted phrase which means coupling from one circuit to another due to less
than perfect common "ground".

I agree that the word "loop" is not really appropriate in that situation,
but it's still used anyway. As far as that goes, the term "ground" is
meaningless on an airplane while it's flying.   :-)
