   While this is true, some people pass the amateur extra test without 
studying anything. I and one friend are two that I know that did, we 
know electronics.  I knew all of the answers to all questions save two 
that I never heard of.  (I guessed that it was about a form of modulation)
   I had to study the general test, most of that is not about 
electronics.  That I had to learn by memorization as many must do to 
pass the extra.
   I took both at one setting, going from tech+ to extra in an hour. 
All I ever wanted to be is a general and that is the one thing I never 
was.  (never advanced either)
