I know. One thing I've done is included two ground conductors in the control cable that 
goes to the amplifier. So if someone were to disconnect the HV cable while the supply was 
energized, it would still be grounded (the supply can't turn on if the control cable is 
disconnected). I agree about the exposed pin.

I thought a lot about using a separate power supply. I would much have preferred a single 
unit, but it would have been too big and heavy for a tabletop and I don't have room for a 
floor-standing unit.
