[Amps] Rigol DMM

Jim,

In case you haven't yet checked the EEVBlog forum, there are several
discussions on the DM3058E including display topics.

Although a new Keithley 2100 is now on the bench, I've kept an old Fluke
8842A since it's not auto-ranging. Auto-ranging slows me down. I would
check the auto-ranging lag time on any new DMM. Replacement Fluke VFDs can
sometimes be found for about $90 on the big auction site.

Most of the newer DMMs use the same common lead type (including retractable
plugs) although I've seen a large variance in the shorting resistance
between them. Probably no surprise, but my Fluke and Keithley leads show
lowest resistance. Asian imports show the highest resistance.

I'm looking at a Rigol DM3058E bench DMM to replace my beloved Fluke bench
DMM (whose vacuum fluorescent display is fading) and wonder if anyone on the
list has used one? Specifically, I'd like to know if the LCD display is
backlighted, and also if the test leads are compatable with HP and Fluke
test leads, both of which I have a drawer full. I can't find any mention of
on the web or in the Rigol documentation (although the DM3068 does have
backlighting). Normally, I'd prefer to buy an Agilent, Fluke, or Keithley
bench DMM, but the ones I've seen are older designs that don't have many of
the features of the Rigol, and of course they're pricier also.

Tnx,

Jim W8ZR
