Hi Randy....

The tubes are electrically identical, but there are some things you'd want
to know if you're considering an amp.

The A7 and D7 have 'long' grid leads that internally terminate in one of the
pins on the bottom.

The Z7 and the YC229 (bigger anode version of Z7) feature a grid ring which
grounds the grid with a very short connection.
In other words, the grid ring is bolted to the chassis (so no socket
required).
This is a good deal to help eliminate parasites.

Aside from the physical and filament differences is there much difference in
RF performance between the 3CX1200A7, D7, and Z7 tubes?  Is one more suited
for HF SSB service (lower IMD, etc.)?  If you had all three types available
and wanted to build an HF SSB amp project from scratch, which of these would
be the best choice?
