Regarding word origination or where we Americans coined it this is sorta 
OT, but...

Accelerator, gas pedal ( gaspedal for Manfred) foot feed, all lend them 
selves to getting more revs (British, tours for the french) all the 
desire to increase the Po of the engine.

Please pardon just had to get my $0.02 (don't know what that is in euro, 
bit coin, francs, deutchmarks or pounds sterling) in.
