Without a lot of compression and clipping the duty cycle for SSB is only
20%. Given 100W out at 60% efficiency, we are looking at roughly 167W
input at the 20% duty cycle or roughly 34 watts. Depending on the
exciter we are looking at less than 100 watts total power consumption
for a 100W SSB signal output. Often, much less power consumption.
Unfortunately this is not true for the new, top end rigs with all the
bells an whistles.
