But if the tube is kaput then most of that grid gold has likely vaporized 
and splattered all over the anode and cathode.

I guess it is all about how much work some ham wants to go thru to salvage 
any. Considering that the Chinese sell that tube to OEM's in small quantity 
for ~ $650 says there isnt much gold involved; it takes a lot of labor to 
build a GOOD one and Eimac charges about 2X more for the privilege of having 
their name painted on.

On a big tube such as the YC-156 and bigger there may be a bonanza.
