##  That fellow in hong kong, back in the 70s had several...active
antenna tuners.   You see, the xcvr wont handle a >2:1  swr,  but the
active ant tuner will.   An active ant tuner is just like a regular ant tuner,
with the usual pair of variable caps, and tapped coil, or rotary coil...
except the active version had a  big  tube in it..and the requisite mating
7 kv power supply.   Adjusted correctly,  you got more out of it, than 
you put into it....sorta like a George Soros  free lunch.
