If I don't decide to get a KPA1500, i'll consider that modification. If the amp were here, I'd send it to Richard Byrd for modification. But it's in Mali.
What all would be entailed? Also the 3CX/3CPX800A7 alone is about $1200.

A single 3CX/3CPX800A7 will replace a pair of 8874's and is almost a plug in 
swap.You will need a new filament transformer.
