Jim, you can buy two new 8877's for $180 each? That is impressive.

Yes, the socket is expensive. Yes, the filament is at 7.5 volts at 51.5
amps, but it is also a no warm up tube so it doesn't need to sit there and
cook while you examine Spot Collector. :-)

The Henry 8K using the 3000 tube is large and noisy. So is the Henry 3K,
and 2K, etc. That being said, I ran a 3CX10000B7 that used a two speed air
handler out of a home heat pump unit. It ran low speed constantly and was
barely audible. An exhaust air-temp probe switched it to high speed where
it got louder, but still about 1/3 of the Henry. It all depends on design,
but no .... a 3CX3000A7 amp is not going to fit on a tabletop footprint. So
you are correct again.

Bottom line is that I've run about 10 different tube types in various amps
varying from 800 to 10,000 watts output in homebrew amps and I still favor
the 3000 over anything else. It is just a tractor of a tube.

Add another $375.00 for a socket!

You can buy an couple of 8877s for that much. Not to mention the 386
watt filament.

To each their own.

3xc3000 amplifiers are very large and noisy. So you have to put them in
a separate room. Which is fine if you have that available.

Thanks
