<Possible stupid question alert.  Why not measure filament current instead
of <voltage?  Then you do not have to worry about accounting for losses in
the filament <path or the position of the voltmeter connection?  Or is
there too much variability in <the current drawn from tube to tube to be
useable?

Tried that already, doesn't work very well.  Too much variances between
tubes, even brand new, sequential serial numbered tubes from the same
maker.  They are all close, but too much variance to be useful.   I do
measure current on my hb amps with the metal tubes though, via a panel
meter.  And also the fil V.
