The disadvantage to vertical polarization is that you lose the additional
gain provided by ground reflections, which is many db's for all but ground
wave signals on 10 meters at any reasonable antenna height.

Here's the question: why everyone uses horizontally polarized yagis on hf.
What are the drawbacks (if any) of using vert. polarized yagis (e.g. on 10
meters)??
