Cebik has an excellent article on how to model a matching network at:

Subject: [Antennaware] EZNEC Modelling

I have been doing some basic modelling of vertical antennas using
EZNEC for a while but have not paid much attention to the impact the
L-match has on the system (particularly losses in the coil) and would
like to refine my approach. I was thinking of doing the following.

I use an L-match with a coil going from the bottom of the antenna to
ground and a series capacitor from the bottom of the antenna (top of
coil) to the 50ohm input.

First I model the basic antenna and get the source impedance and
determine the L-match components

I was thinking of putting a short 1-segment wire from the bottom of
the antenna to ground and putting the inductor on this element. Then adding
another short 1-segment wire from the bottom of the
antenna (top of coil) at right angles to the antenna and putting the
series capacitor and the source on this wire.

Are there any flaws in this approach or a better way of doing it?
