Comments:
The nearly total absence of night-time darkness in OH8 (65 deg.
northern latitude) and the presence of heavy aurora are a challenging
mix for WPX CW.
A winning combination requires well-placed stints on the low bands and
good high-band DX propagation, and this time it was not to be.
Saturday was miserable, but there was some relief towards the end of
the contest, especially when 15m opened to W6/W7. Achieving any record
was hopeless in the face of generally absent DX openings.
I used the live scoreboard at cqcontest.ru, and it was a lot of fun to follow
my "local" SOABHP competition with Pekka, OH2TA, at OH0X. When my
final rest period ended at about 1230z on Sunday, the purpose of my
life became to close the ~500 kpts gap between OH0X and OG8X and to
emerge victorious. A great way to avert the boredom of poor
propagation, but even though I worked the two radios like crazy,
nothing was enough this time :) Well done, Pekka.
Thanks to the Radio Arcala team for this opportunity. Special thanks
to my host Veijo, OH6KN, for stimulating Friday-evening discussions
around our shared profession of integrated circuits. And of course,
thanks for the QSOs to everybody.
