Maunder Minimum

Last year at Visalia Martti signed his book and wrote "learn about
the Maunder Minimum, and everything will be clear."  Well, it's been
a year and I still don't know anything about the Maunder Minimum.
Course, I didn't read the book either.

Anyway, if someone can tell me what this is, I would appreciate it.

Is Martti going to get back from So. Sandwich and So. Georgia in time
to be at Visalia this year?
