Maunder Minimum

The Maunder Minimum was a long period of time (100+ years) in which
virtually no sunspots were observed. I believe this occurred back in
the 1700's, although I am trying to recollect this from memory. Tree
rings from this time period show much smaller year-to-year growth than
before or after this period. This has led to many attempts to correlate
the 11 (or 22) year sunspot cycle with X (fill in your favorite).
