Need for amps

[Make it as simple as possible, but not simpler.]

I find the recent post about illegal power and the need for amps to "break
through" pile-ups a sad commentary at best.  Suggesting that an amp is needed
to get through a pile up only pours fuel on the fire.  What happens when
everyone runs amps?  You know what happens?  Half the number of QSO's or less
get made because of all the adjacent frequency QRM.  How about some low power
only contests with divisions determined by the number of antenna elements or
total length of all elements in the antenna system.  That would certainly put
to rest the fallacy that you need 1500 W to crack a pile-up.
