I'm new to this thread, but have read with interest the
discussion on incorporating a 24 hour participation class
in contests. Difficult to say whether or not this is a
good idea. What I would like to see first is several
seasons of 100W class participation monitored. That there
seems like enough to me.
I am in the USAF and get transferred every several years.
This pretty much relegates me to the tribander at 40'
crowd. I like the 100W class since I don't have the time
or resources to plant a lot of aluminum every 2 - 3 years.
Fortunately, the Air Force has sent me to some contest-
desrirable QTH's. The last two stateside assignments have
been to Wyoming and now North Dakota. I've done well in SS
from both places.
My only beef about contests is meaningful exchanges.
The 59's don't bother so much as having to sign /0 so the
software can place me in the right zone. I did not get a
2X1 so that I would have to repeat additional syllables with
each exchange. Here is my proposal, replace the signal
report with Maidenhead locators carried out to the sixth
place. That eliminates some of the automation, and places
emphasis on the ability to correctly receive and log valid
exchanges. Of course this idea will be immediately unpopular.
All current software packages would become obsolete. But
it is worth considering. See ya from JN17jx? or is it EN17jx?
