packet & WRTC teams

A few questions have been raised about the logic of allowing WRTC-95
competitors to use packet spots.

It should be noted that the WRTC-95 competitors are two-man teams,
operating in the MULTI-SINGLE class (not single op) of the IARU contest.
Since the use of spotting networks is specifically allowed in M-S, and is a
normal part of M-S competition in the mid-Atlantic region, the decision to
make packet network available seemed reasonable to the Administration.

BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The WRTC teams will be a TOTALLY seperate category. They won't be competing
with the M/S guys in IARU. Since we are trying to find out who are the best
operators, it makes sense not to allow packet for WRTC competitors.

I have received quite a few personal messages that have agreed with this point.

First off, I agree with KM9P, if you are trying to measure operator ability,
get packet out of the equation. People using a crutch to run in the race
don't belong there.

As to measuring operator ability, are these stations going to be set up with
two radios? I have invested a lot of time and energy learning how to contest
with two radios. If I have only one, my full contesting ability is not
being used. Actually, I would like the opportunity to bring my own station
as I do when I guest op at other stations.

If you want to know who the best drummer is, you let them set the drums up the
way they are used to.

Now now, Serge. You aren't supposed to ask a question like that!
At least if you ask it, ask your local buddies, not the whole world!
