There really is no purpose to this number. It is essentially an "empty"
number which carries no "intelligence" whatsoever. The number even
varies from band to band during the contest with a given operator, so
it would be difficult to justify penalizing a qso because the number is
"wrong". There has been some discussion about changing the number to
itu region, age, yrs licensed, etc, but no one is really pushing for
it. if you have any suggestions, send them to cac at arrl.org.

Operation was at the Derry, NH QTH of K1MNS.

Operators were: K1RX, NX1H, N1HFE, K1TR, K1BG, K1DG and K1MNS (1 QSO!)

Antennas:
160 - Inverted L
80 - 4-square array (elevated radials)
40 - 40-2CDs at 77' and 155'.
20 - 5 at 80'.
15 - 4/4 at 45' and 90', plus 4 south at 50'
10 - 5/5/5 at 30, 60 and 100'.

Comments:
We were going to be Multi-2, but last minute cancellations made me
wise up and drop to M/S. (Most of the ops in the list just put in a
few hours...)

Sunday on 15M gave us a real taste of life in the Black Hole. Or as
someone said "would whoever took the ionosphere please return it?".
It was most frustrating to hear K5MR and other texans having massive
EU runs that couldn't be heard. At least we had 20 (but gawd, was it
crowded!).

CQing off the remainder of a 10-minute QSY to 10 late Sunday produced
a totally unexpected QSO with JH1AJT. The only JA heard (none were
spotted). Gee, maybe the 10-minute rule isn't so bad....

Noticeable lack of activity on 80. Everyone told us were really
loud, but we still couldn't get many answers.

Paul, NX1H

Worked as hard as I could for my usual 48 hour effort. Trying to lead the
FRC Single Assisted gang, after a debacle in CQWW SSB. New TH19 seems to
work fine on CW but just hangs in with everyone but the big monobander guys
around here on fone.
