WRTC Complaints

In response to those who have been sharply critical of the rules and
organization of next year's WRTC, I would like to offer a defence of the
committee.

First, please recognize that this is only the second time this sort of
event has ever been organized. It is being done with volunteer labour, and
the people who have undertaken to do this deserve applause, not abuse.

Second, if you really feel that it was poorly organized and conceived, then
YOU organize a WRTC in 1996 or 1997. As there is no permanent international
organization yet established to set the rules, you, as the organizer will
be free to establish whatever rules you wish. If you want it done "right",
and if you feel you know what "right" is, then do it yourself, and see who
shows up.

Third, the 1995 WRTC will not replace the CQ WWs, the CQ WPXes or any other
DX contests. It won't even replace the IARU HF Championhip. This is a
sideshow, although a very interesting one. The world of contesting will
not be changed by what happens in Washington in July 1995. A couple of
hundred people will have a lot of fun and take home some pleasant memories
and maybe even an award.

So, those of you who are getting into a lather over details of how the
1995 WRTC will run, I can only suggest following:

1. Take a deep breath.
2. Have a nice, cool shower.
3. Put the kettle on, and make yourself a nice cup of tea.

There, doesn't that feel better?
