Interesting to see all the discussion about 3-phase mains supply.  Here in VS6,
in rural village houses like I live in (3-floor Spanish-style villa), 3-phase
has been standard for quite a few years.  Houses 15 years or older were
originally kitted out with single phase, though many are converted as owners
rent out the other two floors to poor blokes like me.
 
The problem with 3-phase supply here is that the phases get split out
individually to each floor.  I came home the other night to find hardly enough
voltage to get a dim glow in a light bulb when the folks downstairs (who
weren't home at the time) had a 2.5-horse air-con going.  Very irritating when
you're hot & sweaty & don't have enough juice to pump water for a shower!
 
Ah, the sacrifices one makes to get out of the noise of the city & to have
near-field salt water!  Not quite like "Everyday is Field Day at AH6BK" but I
must admit that everything in the shack, including the 8xMRF458s in the final,
can run on 12 volts.  Bloody 'ell, now I've gone & told you what I'm running...
Yes, VS6BG can exceed our 26 dBW power limit, even on batteries!

This was my first ever try at the Sprint, I had a lot of fun, but
my score is more indicative of my effort.  I ran <1KW to a
tribander at 50/40m rotatable dipole at 60/75m 2 wavelength loop @50
 
90 Qso's X 31 Mults = 2790
 
Nice to work all you reflector regulars!

    Seems like most people feel that you NEED a two radio set-up
to place Top Ten or Win a contest now.   I differ with these comments.

   My win in 1993 SS Phone was done with 1 radio.  If I had two radios
I'm not sure what time I would have been able to spend on the 2nd rig.
You truly need to be a master at the two radio think to make it happen
for you.  KR0Y is the Master of two radio contesting.  No doubt that
the experienced 2 radio guy will most likely be in the top ten, but don't
count out the 1 radio guys.  Operators still need to know when to do
band changes and off times if they expect to win.

   I was going to join the ranks of the 2 radio guys this year, but 
since my wife is going back to school full time and quitting work, I decided
to rebuild the antenna system here.   Did I make the right decision???.....
As far a my marriage is concerned, I'm sure I did!   

   I agree that maybe we need to Identify the 2 radio guys.....But I'm not
sure how to implement a way of doing this, and being fair.   Not sure what
the difference is between a guy with Mono's vs Tribander, 50 ft vs 100 ft,
2 radio vs 1 radio....ect.    Hard to make a decision on what should be
put in the results.

    .......Wasnt on for Sprint due to antennas being down.   Phone sprint
I got the 40 beam up and played at 100 watts.

Equipment Description:   
RIG: FT-990 & 486DX2-66 MHz running CT.  ANTs: My CC&R's prohibit external 
antennas, so I have an indoor 20m, 15m, and 10m fan dipole, stuck to the 
attic rafters in my townhouse with push pins (green for 20m, blue for 15m, 
yellow for 10m) and a nearly invisible 40m delta loop in the eucalyptus 
over the garden wall.  I used the delta loop on 80m, letting the FT-990's
built in tuner do the matching.  

Before I do the Sweepstakes this year, I intend to do something better than
the delta loop, esp. on 80m.  Any suggestions?  I has to be invisible to
neighbors and homeowner's association officers.  I have access to the boulevard
along the expressway just over the garden wall, in which there are several
50 foot tall eucalyptus trees maintained by the city.
