EWE VS BEVERAGE

SUBJECT: EWE VS BEVERAGE
I put up a EWE antenna and I also am constantly comparing it against the
other guys on the cluster who have beverages and it's my opinion that
a EWE is better than nothing but at no time compares to a beverage.

There are lots of variables and this may factor in but I am comparing
to guys with beverages laying in drainage ditches who hear better.

I even checked the sensitivity of my receiver just to make sure it wasn't
a problem on my end...

For a guy who lives on a city lot 100x120 and wants to have a receive antenna
on 160 then the EWE is the only choice..but make no mistake there is no
free lunch and a EWE can't compare to a beverage...in my opinion...

We are in the process of buying a house with 12 acres attached (if our house
sells) I go to sleep at night planning tower locations..I plan to put up as
many towers as I can and beverages like spokes on a wheel. I figure I am
49 years old and what am I waiting on....I am eating my desert first from now
on.....

hope this helps and thanks to all the guys who have put their thoughts on
towers and guying on the reflector..

Are there any guys who have the new Orion rotator2800p bought in the last
4 months...I have one and wanted to compare notes...not up yet but will be
soon..

thanks

Sam Effinger K9SD

Subject: Participation in CW Sprints
Message-ID: <Pine.SV4.3.91.950920100417.7141D-100000 at golden.ripco.com>

Excepting one notable flamer, the private response to my admittedly
flame-prone message regarding participation in CW Sprints has been high.
Of all the private responders, I doubt many people on this reflector
would recognize their calls. In other words, they are not "elite", what
ever that is.

The private responses are running ALMOST 100% in agreement with what I
originally posted. THEY don't do CW Sprint because THEY can't keep up
with what THEY consider the high average sending speed combined with the
difficult exchange and rules. Period.

It seems SOME people (person ?) is loosing sight of the ORIGINAL post I
responded to. Someone had asked where all the new blood was in the CW
Sprint. My thoughts are now public knowledge and the responses of the
masses (in private - guess THEY didn't want to attract attention) confirm
my suspicion.

Its not an issue of whether one CAN or CAN NOT copy CW well. Its not
one of those "I can't do it - so CHANGE it..." things, its just a fact
that participation in CW Sprints is down because MANY operators won't try
it.

Everyone can do what they want. I, for one, will continue to pass on
entering the CW Sprint and concentrate on giving out Q's to those in the
Midwest I feel are worthy (joke). As for increasing participation, maybe
those who are serious should get together and figure out a way to get
more people into it !

As for the public debate, lets concentrate on that increased
participation thing. It'll probably be good for ALL contests, not just
Sprints. I don't need anymore "come on, just try it, you'll get better"
notes, my CW proficiency matches my ego fine, thanks. I don't need
flames, although some are quite humorous. As far as the recent flame, I
only read the first line before it hit the trash icon !
