HAM5 it is!

Thanks for all the instant response to my query about HAM5AWH.  Everyone
responding said that HAM5 is a legit prefix for HA5 (several took me to task
for being somewhat out of touch, hi).  Whew...that makes me glad that I put
it down correctly and didn't succumb to the temptation to edit what I heard.
  Next subject: when are CQ going to change the rules to allow a point or two
for intracountry contacts?  THere are many reasons for such a change,
including helping activity in low sunspot years, equalizing opportunity
between W's and VE's, etc.  Heck if major league bnaseball could go from 154
to 162 games and jeopardize Babe Ruth's home run record, surely CQ Magazine
could stand some innovation.

I use my old 3el Telrex all the time on 17 ....it works great.  It also =
works great on 30M and 15M ..... my guess is that it is functioning like =
a big rotatable dipole.  Zero F/B, but quite a bit of difference (3 to 6 =
s-units) between broadside and ends.  I've tried loops and dipoles cut =
for these bands but they never equal the 40M beam.  I imagine the 402CD =
would perform similarly.=20

This year was realy hard to work. First morning elecrtricity was swithced off.
All the next time was strong rain and a lot of qrn. At the fist minutes 500 w
amp burned and was replaced by 300 w.

I fully agree with KM9P and VK5GN on the 30 hours instead of 36.
I used to like WPX contest and usually did pritty good but since
they changed to 36 hours I haven=B4t operated at all and I=B4m not
going to until they change back to 30 hours.

Subject: TS850S and CW filters

In the slow time before the fall contest period, I need to come to a
decision on improving the CW filtering in my 850. When I purchased it, I
bought the standard Kenwood 500 Hz filters for both IFs. Subsequent
experience, particularly in the ARRL and CW 160 contests proved that this
was not adequate. I'm now looking at several options and would very much
appreciate advice from any fellow contesters who have experience in this area:

1. Install 250 Hz filters from International Radio in Florida.
2. Install just the 250 International Radio in the 455 IF.
3. Remove the Kenwood 500s and install the International Radio 400 Hz filters.

Ideally, I'd like to keep the 500 cycle filters and add a pair of 250s. I
wonder if the International Radio 400 Hz pair are narrow enough and/or are
the 250s too narrow. 

Please respond directly to me and I will post the collected wisdom to the
net. Thanks.

Well, it could have been worse.  I worked a Georgia-resident Zero -- I
forget the call now -- who was using the "00" Olympic option.  The resulting
call had 3 zeroes in a row. I notice he gave me a very low number late in
the contest.  I had trouble with it at first, and this was the first time I
ever heard - actually heard - an exasperated fist!
