I quite agree. I'd rather see the point values restructured, rather
than just add in 1 point for intra-country QSOs.

How about this:

within country - 1 point, all bands
different country, same continent - 1 point, all bands
different continent - 3 (or more) points 20/15/10; 6 points 160/80/40

And, one change I'd _really_ love to see for all the CQ contests, but
which makes entirely too much sense:

Either, make a new continent - "Central America", or, decree Mexico,
Central America and the Caribbean to be part of South America.  Sure,
we have to define our own geology - but heck, we define our own
countries (can you say Alaska?). This would lead to a big increase in
DXpedition activity, and thus fun, for everyone.  (OK, the VEs and KL7s
won't like giving up their 2pt US QSOs, maybe not everyone will be
happy).

Just an idea....
