Greetings
I will be making a trip to Hawaii on Mar 5 to Mar 19 and would like to meet
some local hams and do some operating if possible.
Here is my itinerary:
Mar 5-10 Maui
Mar 10-15 Kauai
Mar 15-19 Waukakai (sp?)
I would also like to come early, say the preceeding Thursday Feb 27, if there
is a chance that I could borrow someone's station for the DX SSB contest
either as a single op or part of a multi-op.
Please email me if any Islanders would be willing to open their doors for me
to have at it or if any would like to get together for lunch or something!

Anyone have much experience with an antenna called a vee beam? the one i
have designed on my computer has 206 ft long legs that connect at an apex
of 65 ft high. then they go out and down at an angle to 35 ft high and are
separated by 180 ft with an 800 ohm resistor. this would look like a delta
loop on it's side with a resistor at the bottom end.
my program shows a gain of 10+ db forward on 20m with just over 14bd f/b.
and on 40m it shows 5.9db forward and 17db f/b. this is over real ground
for my area in indiana. i would like to put up 5 or 6 of these in a
circular formation and used with an automatic switchbox inside the shack.
i would like some imput on anyone that has used these or anyone that can
give me some pointers with the design on the computer. thanks...steve

Contest Station Descriptions 5.0
Now Available!
I am pleased to announce the Version 5.0 of my Contest Station
Descriptions files are now available. Since the release of
Version 3.0 last April, the data in the files has continued to
expand. I now have references for 541 US/Canada and 199 DX
contest stations, an increase of over 200. Additionally, another
200 records have been updated or checked since the Version 3.0
release. This includes capturing the vanity call changes for
stations in the old database, all the resulting e-mail address
changes, the posted antenna mods as a result of last summer's
U.S. east coast hurricanes, and everyone's purchase of FT-
1000MP's. All in all, the files are developing into a great
reference work for the inquisitive contester. You will find band
by band descriptions of antennas, the rigs and amps, e-mail
addresses, and contesting software used. With the flux on the
upswing you might want to see what your competition has on 10M
and 15M to plan your aluminum additions.
As with the last release, the files are available for FTP
downloading. If you have FTP capabilities I highly recommend you
obtain your copies of the files this way. The particulars are:
* FTP Server: netnow.micron.net
* Username: k7zofile
* Password: k7zofile
(You should find yourself in the directory /users/k/k7/k7zofile.)
* File names and types:
CONTXL4.ZIP Excel 4.0 Format 89KB (268KB unzipped)
CONTXL5.ZIP Excel 5.0 Format 94KB (258KB unzipped)
CONTWD2.ZIP Word 2.0A Format 86KB (382KB unzipped)
CONTWD6.ZIP Word 6 Format 90KB (427KB unzipped)
CONTWP51.ZIP WordPerfect 5.1 Format 60KB (448KB unzipped)
The first four were created with Windows 3.1 versions of
the apps. The native file format is Excel 5.0. The WP5.1
version was created with a SAVE AS option in Word 2.0A.
I have not been able to check it, as I do not have
WordPerfect 5.1 (DOS). So, it might work. It might not.
The spreadsheet formats are much more usable than the word
processing formats. Spreadsheets let you easily move around the
records from cell to cell. Because of the way the text falls in
the tables, the word document are now 50 pages long and are not
the most convenient way to review the information.
I am also working with Bill/N4VJ to make the files available on
his excellent Contesting Web site. Bill and his team did a great
job with version 3.0. Not only did he host the FTP access but
they also converted the file to HTML to make it viewable from
your favorite web browser and provided an Abode Acrobat version.
Hopefully this version will be available in these formats as well
sometime in the future. So stay tuned to www.contesting.com.
If you don't have FTP access or don't have a friend that has FTP
access, and can't wait until they appear at www.contesting.com,
send me an e-mail and we will see what we can do.
I hope you enjoy looking through these files. In case you are
wondering where I get this information, I get it from your
postings to 3830 at contesting.com. Someday I would love to convert
this to a full CGI driven web site so you can make your own
updates. But, that is not even on my radar screen right now.
As always, if you can add anything or just have any suggestions,
please send me a message.
