I have been having problems posting to the reflector for the last 2
weeks. This is being written Thursday afternoon, 7/31/97.
Stopped by the PO box while out running errands preparing for a fishing
day-trip tomorrow. Found the latest issue of CQ among the bills and
catalogs.
Front cover photo of contester K8CC in his shack and his (?) tower. NO
DETAILS are included inside anywhere! We'll just have to guess what that
bright blob is behind the person on the tower; the Sun, the Hale-Bopp
comet, or the corona around someone when holding an antenna that is being
pumped with a kilowatt of RF.
Contest related items: Results 96 CQ WW RTTY DX Contest; Review of
Ameritron AL-800H Amplifier; 97 CQ WW 160 DX Contest High-Claimed Scores;
Narrowing the Debate - A Brief Look at Replication Requirements for
Building Yagi and Quad Antennas; Contest Calendar - Being Competitive--Is
It Strategy or Skill?; and Radio FUNdamentals - The S92SS Limited Space

Other interesting items: Review of the Alpha Delta Communications
Variable Response Console (3rd time this thing has been reviewed, first
in QST, then CQ VHF, and now CQ; anyone used one in a contest, maybe NCJ
will provide us another review); Doug's Desk - Low-Power Thrills for Less
Than Ten Bucks; VHF Plus - Meteor-Scatter Communications; Washington
Readout - History of the Morse Code Requirement in the Amateur Service;
Propagation - Sunspot Count Increasing Slowly; and more....
Ads: CQ Showcase has a picture and paragraph on the new Bencher
trap-free tribander yagi (looks similar to the Force-12 C3 series, minus
the bird); and Surplus Sales of Nebraska's catalog is still "Coming
Soon"!
73 and good reading,
