HIGHLIGHTS OF SOLAR AND GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY 24 FEBRUARY - 02 MARCH 1997

SOLAR ACTIVITY WAS VERY LOW. NO OPTICAL FLARES WERE REPORTED.

THE GREATER THAN 2 MEV ELECTRON FLUX REACHED HIGH LEVELS DURING 28
FEBRUARY - 02 MARCH.

THE GEOMAGNETIC FIELD BECAME DISTURBED DURING 26 - 28 FEBRUARY WITH MINOR
TO SEVERE STORM CONDITIONS OBSERVED AT ALL LATITUDES.  CONDITIONS DECLINED
TO QUIET TO ACTIVE LEVELS AFTER 28 FEB 1200 UTC.  QUIET TO UNSETTLED
LEVELS WERE OBSERVED ON 01 MARCH.  ACTIVITY INCREASED ON 02 MARCH WITH
QUIET TO ACTIVE LEVELS NOTED AT ALL LATITUDES AND ISOLATED MAJOR STORM
CONDITIONS REPORTED AT HIGH LATITUDES.  THE FIELD SUBSIDED TO QUIET
LEVELS AFTER 02 MAR 1800UTC.

At least we were treated to six hours of excellent propagation at the end
of the ARRL SSB Contest to rremind what it could have been like...
