For those looking more information on the 830 and modifications thereof, check the following:
QST, Product Review, May 1981
QST, Hints & Kinks, April 1989, Second VOX On-Off switch
QST, Hints & Kinks, March 1984, Fine Tuning for the TS830S, Kenwood TS830S Mods
73, June 1983, Strangle QRM with Your TS830S
QST, Hints & KInks, November 1984, Diode-Ring Product Detectors
QST, Hints & Kinks, May 1988, Schottky Diode Update
QST, Hints & Kinks, Sept 1983, Fox-Tango (now IRCI) 2.1 kHz TS830S Filter
Mods
IRCI's Kenwood Users Newsletter (no longer published, not sure about availability now, check with IRCI), Issues 11, 12, 15-17, 20-37, 39, 41, 45,
47, 50, 56, 62, 67, 76, & 80 included reviews and numerous mods for the
TS830, such as filter cascading, transverter operation, noise blanker
and AGC improvements, etc.
In addition, some of the mods for the other Kenwood rigs (120, 130, 520, 530, 820) are applicable to the 830. For example, a RIT mod (increases range to 10 kHz) for the TS120/130 also worked for the 830.
One nice thing about doing mods to an 830 is that you don't have to worry
about voiding the warranty; however, you can screw something up, and then
you pay to get it fixed. Be careful!
