Shortening the contest wont change the results at all....just lower the
scores overall. I would suggest that anyone who's tired of "losing" from
anywere outside of 1,2, or 3 land by a plane ticket and borrow one of the
many fine stations that sit vacant during the WPX weekends! Then you'll
have to come up with another excuse if you "lose"... BTW, the top 3 or
more SOHP scores were neither North or East of the Hudson...they were all
in 3 land.
The only good reason for shortening the contest would be if there was a
lack of activity to keep things interesting, and that just ain't the case.
There's more a lack of serious operators than anything else at this point.
In fact, if it were longer, maybe we could get the rest of the world to
listen for US split on 40 phone!

I agree. The only cogent counter-argument I recall from the last iteration
on this topic was that a shorter active period would discourage contest
DXpeditioners from doing their thing in this contest. With respect, is
that important? As Lew says, we already have CQWW and the ARRL DX test
where country mults matter.
Oh, another point ... leaving it the way it is just encourages whining from
west of the Mississippi. Let's cut it to 30 hours, eliminate that excuse,
and see who's right... ;^}
