Jim has an excellant idea and it surely will help increase participation. 
Eliminating the zero pointers would also help.  Since the CQ contests use
the CQ Zones as multipliers, why not use the Zones to determine point value
in some way?  Regarding the dates-I vote to leave them alone, they work
just fine as they are.
