Sorry to disagree with Dr. Bafoofnik, but I do not think an operator's
reputation is hurt if he uses an amp internal to his radio or external to
reach legal power for a contest, so long as he abides completely with the
rules of the contest.

I have not used an amp to boost 100W to 150W, but have no quarrel with
those who do.

If an op has a radio with an internal amp capable of putting out 150W, why
should that be morally superior to using an external amp for the same
purpose?
